Played A Full Game!

I made it through!  I did 3 short ice sessions to work on my endurance and have upped my walking/yoga regimen at home.  Low and behold, I played a full 1.25 hours last night!  It was a 5-2 loss in the end, but a win for my silly back.  I was definitely aware of my back while playing, though it was not painful.  I’ve still got a lot of work to do on my flexibility as 2 years off the formal yoga mat have taken their toll.

All in all, it was a little tight last night and this morning, but no different than my pre-injury back in 2010.  These lower back muscles/ligaments haven’t been worked/stretched this hard in approximately 2 years.

Zoticos (from adrsupport) and I have contacted the lead Phd in charge of spinal biomechanics at Loyola… who also happens to have run the tests on the M6-L for quality of motion and durability.  We’re eagerly awaiting his response for those of us trying to return to a high level of physical activity and sport post-adr.  I will definitely report back on our findings. 🙂

  1. You are a legend Brett! Look at that big smile in those pics! You deserve a life full of hockey, happiness and great moments with the fam 🙂 awesome you lasted a full game, so can you step it up on the bike/elliptical? You’ll get fit in no time mate! Muscle memory as my neurosurgeon puts it 🙂

I am heading out onto the tennis court this weekend to do some volleys and throw the ball around (no racquet) for around 2 x 5 mins. My physios want me to start building on and simulating the movements before I actually go out and properly hit in 2 months or so. Sounds logical to me 🙂

    Take care mate!

  2. Brett!! 🙂

Man I only just noticed this post, geussing that puck might have caught you around the time of this game.

Big congrats on this game, it’s awesome inspiration for us following in your footsteps 🙂 I cycled 5 miles today and feel awesome 😉 still not quite 3 months, so getting nervous about my follow up Xray.

Keep up the good work dude!! 🙂

  3. Sorry guys… just saw your comments. Thanks again for the kind words!

@tennis – good luck on the court! Let us know how it goes. 🙂
@zot – that would be the game I took the puck in the neck. That was an awesome feeling. LOL. Congrats on the biking! I need to pick that up as my next sport I think. It’s a little more back/neck friendly than hockey. 😉
